KEMP–The Kemp YellowJackets are gearing up for their first scrimmage on Aug. 18 against Grand Saline.
The YellowJackets started two-a-day practice on Monday, Aug. 7, and are trying to build off a momentous 2016 season which saw them make it to the first round of the postseason.
Kemp finished the 2016 season with a 7-4 overall record, and 4-3 in district play. The ‘Jackets made it to the first round of the playoffs, and overcame a huge deficit to take the lead before a late touchdown in the final minute sealed their fate.
The YellowJackets averaged 39.7 points on offense last year. The defense held opponents to 20.7 points per game in 2016.
Kemp had some big wins last year that saw them average 45.7 points in their seven wins. Those included a 32-9 victory over rival Mabank, a 63-0 win over district partner Palmer and a blowout of Scurry-Rosser by a score of 78-6.
Grandview, Sunnyvale and Maypearl will be the toughest tests for Kemp this season. Kemp defeated Maypearl last year though, 26-14.
Athletic director and head football coach Brandon Hankins looks to take 2016 with a grain of salt, and will try to create new success this season to leave their mark on the Texas football landscape.
