CEDAR CREEK LAKE–This weekend’s tax-free back-to-school shopping days focuses everyone’s mind on the opening of a new school year, which starts earlier for some than for others.
Select students from Kemp ISD are getting a “Blast-off” to the new school year by starting Monday, Aug. 14 at 8 a.m. and going until noon. These students have been identified as those who would profit most from an early start to review basic skills, create study habits and get extra practice in areas of strongest impact.
Many other students in athletics, cheer and band have already returned to practices for the coming year. All other students have their official first day of school on Monday, Aug. 28, starting at 7:50 a.m. and ending at 3:40 p.m., daily.
Students at Malakoff ISD also return officially at 8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 28.
Students in Mabank ISD and Eustace ISD start back at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. Trinidad ISD students go back to school on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Area school districts have opted to be recognized as Districts of Innovation, their instructional requirements are measured in minutes instead of number of days, allowing for greater flexibility in their academic scheduling.
Bus riders for the first day of school should know buses will run two hours late for Mabank ISD to relieve traffic congestion at all the campuses. School will start at 8 a.m. and bus riders will not be counted late. The rest of the time, the buses will return to their normal pick-up times.
