Kemp girls finish second

MABANK-The Cedar Creek Relays were in full swing March 27 at Mabank High School. The Panther varsity boys captured first place, while the varsity girls fell just four points short of gaining their own first place nod.
The Mabank, Athens, Kemp and Grace Community teams met on the sunny Thursday afternoon to determine which team was in their peak performance. The Mabank boys dominated the field, finishing with 230 points, followed by Kemp (142), Grace Community (108) and Athens (92). The Athens girls finished in first place with 156 points, followed by Mabank (152), Kemp (148) and Grace Community (64).
The Mabank boys won nine of the 17 events to smash the competition. Events Mabank took first place in were the high jump, shot put, discus, long jump, 3200m run, 100m dash, 400m run, 200m dash and the mile run. The Mabank girls won the triple jump, pole vault, 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles and tied for first in the shot put, discus and 800m run.
The Kemp boys had their best showing in the 4×100 relay, finishing first. The Yellowjackets also finished first in the 800m run, 4x200m relay and the 1600m run. The Kemp girls finished first in the 4x100m relay and mile run, and tied for first in the high jump, shot put, 800m run and 400m run.
Individual first place winners for the Mabank boys include: Joe Vuson (shot put), Justin Smith (high jump), Parker Johannesen (long jump and triple jump), Adam Penix (100m dash), Colt Conway (200m dash) and Justin Smith, Josh Templeton, Garrett Lewis, Clay Carson (1600m relay). Second place winners for Mabank include Tommy Norman (discus) Justin Smith (high jump and 400m), Miguel Hollis (pole vault), Adam Reeves (3200m run), Miguel Hollis, Penix, Conway and Clay Carson (sprint relay), Johannesen (100m dash) and Hollis, Carson, Conway and Penix (800m relay).
Individual first place winners for the Mabank girls were Marissa Maraggia (discus), Carson Marsh (triple jump), Nitzia Dominguez (pole vault), Alexandria Hawkins (100m hurdles and 300m hurdles). Mabank girls second place winners were Maraggia (shot put), Elizabeth Dittmer (long jump, 100m dash) and Heather Bayless (1600m run).
First place individual winners for the Kemp boys include Jesus Perez (1600m run, 3200m run), James Kimbrell (800m run) and Forrest Summerhill (110m hurdles). Second place winners were Kimbrell (1,600m run), Toribio Vega (800m run) and Summerhill (800m run). David Dennis (100m dash) and Quinton Laster (long jump) finished in third place.
Kemp Lady ’Jackets individual first place winners were Madison Kerr (shot put), Madison Thompson (400m run) and Kelsey Gauge (800m run). Second place winners were Mikaila Guiterrez (3200m run), Julissa Lopez (discus), Lucy Anderson (200m dash) and Andrea Jonas (100m hurdles and 300m hurdles).
