East Texans produced movie premiers in Mabank

Whatever they can do, we can do better – and for less.
That’s the statement from a group of young East Texas filmmakers after filming and producing the feature-length old time Texas horror flick The Merchant.

The Merchant made its East Texas premier Oct. 19 at the Mabank Pavilion as a free event open to the public. The only thing lake-area residents needed to bring was a folding chair.

The premier was the culmination of years of work. It was also a sweet homecoming for actor Mike Hall, who hails from Mabank and graduated from Mabank High School. Hall plays the character Levi, a bully that Hall describes as “a mean and nasty person.”

“It’s great to see familiar faces out here,” Hall said at the premier. “I’m glad that the folks from Mabank are able to see it.%E
