SEVEN POINTS–The Cedar Creek Brewery in Seven Points claimed a gold medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition in Denver, Colo.
Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States.
The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 12 at the awards ceremony.
“I couldn’t be more excited about our accomplishments,” Cedar Creek Brewery owner Jim Elliott said. “A small brewery in East Texas is making heads turn across America.”
Cedar Creek Brewery was recognized in the Belgian-Style Abbey Ale beer-style category for its Belgian Style Dubbel. Its aroma is complex with a rich malty sweetness upfront that blends into a caramel/Belgian candi sugar sweetness. There are also hints of dark fruits (raisins, pumps and a hint of cherries). The appearance is dark amber to copper and has a reddish hue to it. Flavor is similar to aroma but with more complexity.
An international panel of 201 expert judges tasted 4,809 entries from 745 U.S. breweries.
