Cynthia Hales

Cynthia Hales, 58, of Kemp, was born on April 15, 1955 in Dallas to Judith (Long) and Wesley Prestridge and died Sept. 30, 2013.
She started college at UCLA at the age of 16 and received her degree in psychology and egyptology upon her graduation.
Hales was an active woman who enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Once a year on the first weekend of December, the whole family would gather together for “Candy Day” to make candy and cookies from sun up to sun down.
She was a member of Cedar Creek Bible Church where she participated in the ladies club for more than 10 years and volunteered in other activities as often as she could. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Hales was preceded in death by her parents and her son Joshua Mecker.
She is survived by her significant other of more than 30 years Michael Mecker, of Kemp; daughters Rene Haberman and husband, Patrick of McKinney and Christina Gates and husband, Scott of Tyler; sons Michael Mecker, of Dallas, Billy Johnson, of Okla., Benjamin Mecker and wife, Kayla of Dallas and John Mecker of Tyler; grandchildren Kenzie, Abigail, Alexis, Charles, Jayden and Wesley; sisters Susan Thornton and Pamela Foster; brother Donald Prestridge; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and animals.
