Spirit Week amazes with $62,000 raised for charity

Started in response to the 9-11, 2000 attacks, Spirit Week continues to prove “that together we can make a difference,” fundraising committee chair Tanya Chapman said. This year’s efforts raised a total of $62,062.66, split between a national and a local charity, Chapman announced Sept. 27. The American Heart Association received $47,062.26 and another 30 percent is given to help underpriviledged kids gain school supplies with a check for $19,000.40. Mabank ISD students spend a week fundraising in friendly competition. Central Elementary raised $18,178.74; Lakeview raised $6,804.85, Southside raised $7,109.06, the middle school raised $11,865.27, junior high raised $12,841.06 and the high school raised $14,755.57, Chapman announced.
