KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjackets got a slow start to the season, losing to the visiting Palmer Bulldogs, 29-0, last Friday.
Kemp quarterback Corey Watkins connected for 74 yards on six completions, all to receiver Braxton Allison.
David Dennis had eight carries for 23 yards, Matt House carried three times for 25 yards and Daniel Garcia notched seven yards on two carries.
Yellowjacket linebacker Olice Rogers had two and six assists, while defensive back Kolton Hill added two solo tackles and three assists.
Larry Shaw had two tackles and four assists, Daniel Garcia had a tackle and four assists and Noah Romero added five assist on defense.
“We had four opportunities to score in the first half, and came away with 0 points,” Kemp head coach Greg Anderson explained. “One turnover on the goal-line going in really hurt. That would have made the game 14-7. We just couldn’t convert any drives into points.” Palmer led the game, 14-0, at halftime.
“Missing on those scoring chances hurt us and seemed to carry over to the second half,” Anderson commented.
The Yellowjackets will travel to Ferris tomorrow.
“They are a team that is loaded with speed so we will have to do a great job pursuing the ball on defense to try and limit their big play potential,” Anderson explained.
