McCreary was born July 6, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo., to Harriet and James McCreary, and died Aug. 26, 2013, in Mabank.
He grew up in Berkeley, Calif., and moved to Texas to earn a Ph.D in psychology.
He eventually made Dallas his home, where he raised his family with his wife, Barbara, and built a successful private practice.
He retired to Cedar Creek Lake and enjoyed nine fantastic years of retirement.
He was a life-long golfer, who grew up playing with his father, brother and uncle. He was thrilled to pass the tradition down to his son.
Never one to sit long, he was involved in the Pinnacle Men’s Golf Association, Carolyn Estates board, competitive bridge, driving for Meals on Wheels, renovating his home, making dollhouses, boomerangs and walking sticks for grandkids, and writing two memoirs.
He was known to his grandchildren as Grrdaddy.
He was grateful for everyone’s love and friendship
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters Jennifer Ford and husband Jody, and Brooke Davis and husband Shane; sons Eric Martin, and Brian McCreary and wife Tamara; and 12 grandchildren.
