Sandy Roche

Sandy Vestal Roche, a Dallas native who ran several successful businesses with husband Fred in Central and East Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
Sandy was born just a few days before Christmas 1938 in Parkland Hospital in Dallas to Zetherine and David Vestal. They named her Sandra June.
She went to Dallas and Tolosa grade schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1957. She married William Frank Wright that year and gave birth to their daughter, Deanna “Dee” Elaine, in 1961.
Sandy was a hard worker, a dedicated church goer and the life of every family gathering. She worked her way up at Sears Roebuck for more than 23 years and ended up owning Sears Dealer Stores in the East Texas towns of Gun Barrel City and Palestine with her husband, Fred, whom she married in 1980.
In 1981, she and Fred owned and operated two businesses in Austin, which they sold in 1997 when they moved to Gun Barrel City.
Sandy loved to travel, whether it was a car trip to the Northeast, where they were when the September 11 attacks happened, or on an RV trip across the nation. She and Fred went on cruises, too, seeing Alaska, parts of Central and South America, throughout the Caribbean, Italy and the Greek Islands, as well as China, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. Most recently they went on a cruise to the Caribbean with her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Robert Stokes and ten nieces and nephews.
Sandy adored shopping and entertaining with family and friends. She was always laughing and able to see the bright side of life. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Mabank and a member of Cedar Creek Women’s Club and the Literary Club of Cedar Creek Lake.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Fred Roche, of Mabank; daughters Dee Morris and husband Bob of New Braunfels, Deborah Roche of Austin, Sharon Carlson and husband Brian of Flagstaff, Ariz.; son Stephen Roche of Austin; grandchildren Amber, Ashley and Justin; great-grandchildren Hunter, Abbie, Tucker, Karalynn, Emma and Austin; sister Patricia Stokes and husband Robert of Dallas; other family and many loving friends.
