Smith was born Aug. 13, 1954 in Athens, to Helen (Hall) Smith and the late Jesse V. Smith (J Boy) and died April 21, 2013, in Canton, with his loving family by his side.
He received Christ as his personal savior at age 8 at Central Baptist Church in Mabank. Joe and Jodell were currently members of the Turner Baptist Church in Wills Point, where he will be greatly missed.
He retired from the Texas Worker’s Compensation Commission in Austin, after 28 years as the Chief of Customer Service. When He was not working, he enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and especially taking cruises to the Panama Canal, and spending his 30th Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii.
Smith enjoyed keeping a meticulous yard and growing flowers. He also was a gourmet chef and a cake decorator. Joe provided many cakes on many occasions that were exquisite in detail and design. He looked forward to holidays and all the decorating of his home inside and out.
Survivors include his loving wife, Jodell Jaster Smith, of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Sean Timmons of Sugar Land; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Kenneth Kilgore of Trinidad; granddaughter Lillie Christine Timmons and soon-to-be grandson Noah Joseph Keith Timmons; and a host of extended family and friends.
