Services for William “Bill” J. Burks, 76, of Midland, were held March 16, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Midland with Pastor Robert Pase officiating.
Burks was born Dec. 11, 1936, in Linden, to Frances Marie (Moudy) and Jess Lee Burks and died March 14, 2013.
He played high school football and basketball, graduating from Marlin High School in 1955.
He was baptized in 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Marlin. He attended Texas A&M University and Tarleton University.
He married Sharon Burks June 4, 1977, in Sherman.
He worked for Texas Instruments for 36 years, in Dallas and Sherman, before ending his career at the Midland location in 1994, as a facilities and manufacturing manager.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and deer and bird hunting.
He believed it was important for his boys to maintain their own vehicles, and enjoyed teaching the three oldest grandchildren to drive a standard shift on his old green pickup named “Old Green.”
He and his best friend Roger Barker, enjoyed telling old stories together.
He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. His boys said “He really mellowed with the grandkids.”
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Burks of Midland; sons Robert Crawford and wife Donita, of Mena, Ark., Todd Crawford and wife Sonya of Gonzales, and Ty Burks of Dallas; grandson Max Crawford and wife Madeline of Tulsa, Okla.; granddaughters Courtney Crawford of Fort Smith, Ark., Bella Crawford and Scarlett Crawford, both of Gonzales; sister Mary Nan Rogers and husband Mickey of Collinsvile; sisters-in-law Alice Barker and Roger of Mabank and Joyce Burks of Marlin; many nieces and nephews.
