Panthers defeat Eustace in non-district game

EUSTACE–The visiting Mabank Panthers defeated the Eustace Bulldogs 6-1 in non-district action Tuesday.
Mabank pitcher Stephen Caillet racked up 14 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
Bulldog runner Austin White scored Eustace’s lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Eustace’s Gavin Kirkhart had two of the Bulldog’s hits, and Kyle Purselley had one.
Purselley, Forest Lane and Kyle Wood all made it to base after being hit by a pitch. Other than the three hit batters, Mabank’s Caillet allowed no walks.
The first three innings of the contest were a toss-up, with neither team advancing to home plate.
In the top of the fourth inning, Mabank banged out five runs to take the lead.
The lead held, and Mabank added a run in the top of the sixth inning, sealing the win for the Panthers.
Mabank had nine hits in the game, including two hits by Colt Conway and two by Kaleb Mandaville.
Cody Thompson, Garrett Holcomb, Cody Kuykendall, Caillet and John Velez all had one hit each.
Mabank had five stolen bases, with Conway stealing three of them.
The Bulldogs competed in the Kemp baseball tournament this weekend and will travel to Tyler to face T.K. Gorman March 13.
The Panthers competed in the I-20 baseball tournament this weekend and will return to action March 12 as they travel to Kemp to face the Yellowjackets.
