Newspaper carrier dies in truck collision

KEMP–Funeral services were held Tuesday for a Dallas Morning News paper carrier, who served subscribers in the Kemp area.
Martha Lou McVey, 54, of Forney was killed in a vehicular accident near Jiba Road, Feb. 21. Besides her contract work for the newspaper, she drove a school bus, according to a Department of Public Safety accident report.
She was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 around 5 a.m. on Kaufman County Road 156, when she failed to yield to a 1997 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer at an intersection stop sign.
Weather conditions were described as wet and raining.
Her vehicle struck the rear axle of the freight hauler. The accident report stated she was not wearing a seat belt.
McVey was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Patricia Ashcroft at 6:45 a.m. Feb. 21.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Garza, brother Charles Roy Garza and husband James McVey.
Survivors are her children John Garcia and wife, Leslee; Robert McVey, grandchild Addison Garcia, mother Helen Garza, sister Rosemary Propes and husband Jerry, several nieces and nephews.
Her service was held at the Fellowship Baptist Church and interment followed at the Hillcrest Cemetery, both in Forney.
