Panthers get first playoff win in six years

MABANK–The Mabank Panthers boys basketball team is no stranger to the playoffs.
However, what seems to elude them are playoff wins. That changed Tuesday as the Panthers defeated the District 16-3A Spring Hill Panthers 62-46 in a commanding fashion.
Mabank head coach Tracy Carter is continuing his tradition of turning teams around, much as he did in Kemp and Athens.
Three Panthers scored in the double digits against Spring Hills, and the Panthers added strong defense and timely rebounds.
David Marler led the Panthers with 18 points and 15 rebounds in the game, while Garrett Graham scored 17 points and Landon Marshall scored 10. Taylor Willeford added eight points.
Mabank jumped out to a 9-0 lead early in the game, and finished the first period with a 17-11 lead.
Mabank’s defense all but shut down Spring Hill in the second period, allowing just six points.
Meanwhile, Mabank’s offense added 14 points to give the Panthers a 31-17 halftime lead.
The Panthers extended their lead in the third period, outscoring Spring Hille 16-12.
Spring Hill’s offense managed to kick things up in the fourth period, scoring 17 points while holding Mabank to 15.
The win moves Mabank to a 24-8 record for the season as they advanced to face the Wills Point Tigers in Forney Friday.
