Kourtney Holyfield named District 15-3A MVP

MABANK–Mabank senior Lady Panther basketball standout Kourtney Holyfield was unanimously chosen as the District 15-3A Most Valuable Player (MVP) thanks to her outstanding offensive and strong defensive skills.
Kourtney consistently provided points, spark, energy and leadership as the Lady Panthers rolled into the playoffs this season.
Lady Panther sophomore Bailey Swain was named as District 15-3A’s co-defensive MVP after a strong year of defensive rebounding and steals.
Other devensive MVPs included Canton junior Kassidy Wilkerson and Mineola senior Ali Galaz.
Lady Panther sophomore Meagan Holyfield was named to the all-District 15-3A first team, and senior Kaitlyn Holyfield was named to the second team.
Hazel Puempel, Madison Holyfield, Morgen Gaona and Krista Stralow received honorable mention.
All four Holyfield sisters, along with Gaona, Strawlow, Puempel and Kaylee Creagh were named to the Academic All-District team for keeping grades exceptionally high.
Also receiving district honors were first team selections:
• Sydney Hightower, junior, Brownsboro,
• Hallee Carter, sophomore, Van,
• Josee McNeese, junior, Athens,
• Emery Elliott, junior, Canton,
• Jordon Dawson, sophomore, Mineola, and
• Peyton Stephens, sophomore, Mineola.
Receiving second team recognitions were:
• Marisa Ledkins, senior, Mineola,
• Bri Thompson, sophomore, Van,
• Holly Reitz, freshman, Canton,
• Victoria Smith, senior, Canton, and
• Madison Montgomery, freshman, Brownsboro.
Mineola head coach Clayton Harris was named coach of the year, and Mineola freshman Kelsey Green was newcomer of the year.
The District 15-3A offensive MVP was Athens senior Demi Cumby.
