KAUFMAN–The Texas Department of State Health Services Vital Statistics Unit presented the Kaufman County Clerk’s Office with the Five Star Award for Local Registrars for 2012.
About 500 local registrars statewide are responsible for receiving, certifying and issuing birth and death records, funeral related permits, filing amendments to birth and death records, and affidavits of paternity.
The State’s Five Star Award was created to designate excellence in the management of these records.
Kaufman County was one of 42 registrars to receive the award, for meeting or exceeding criteria set by the State, including timeliness; management of the registration process; self-assessment and on-site visite; ongoing training; and collaboration with other vital registrars.
The Kaufman County Clerk’s office has received the Five Star Award eight times since 2000, under county clerk Laura Hughes.
“I am so proud of my staff for their hard work and dedication in achieving this goal,” Hughes said.
State Registrar Geraldine Harris presented the award during the 58th Annual Texas Vital Statistics Conference, in Austin.
