SCURRY–The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets played hard, strong offense and defense as they visited the Scurry-Rosser Lady Wildcats Friday.
However, Scurry took advantage of small mistakes, and walked away with a close, 46-43, win.
“It was a good game by both teams,” Kemp head coach Zach Burleson said. “The game could have went either way. It’s a tough loss, but we will bounce back,” he added.
Madison Kerr led in scoring with 12 points and had eight rebounds. Bree Weisinger added 11 and Bri Degrate had 10.
The game stayed tight, with lead changes, ties and hard-fought runs by both teams.
With just 2:45 left in the game, Kemp tied the score, 42-42, and looked to be rallying.
Scurry, on the other hand, found an opening and took a 44-42 lead. Kemp drew a foul, and closed the gap to 44-43.
The teams moved back and forth down the court, taking advantage of steals and rebounds until, with mere seconds left in the game, Scurry netted the ball, giving them a 46-43 lead, and the win.
“Scurry is a good team. They are very experienced and play real well together,“ Burleson commented. “That being said, we had them beat.
“We have played well this week and just need to take the positives from that and move on to the rest of district play. We are still in the middle of this race.”
The loss gives Kemp a 13-14 overall record, and a 4-5 district mark.
Kemp hosted Dallas Faith Family Tuesday, and are set to visit the Eustace Lady Bulldogs Friday.
