MABANK–The Mabank Panthers defeated the visiting Kaufman Lions, 56-53, Tuesday.
In the game, Mabank’s David Marler led the Panther offense with 28 points.
Landon Marshall followed with 11 points, Garrett Graham scored nine points, Tyler Willeford scored seven, Zach Dillon scored two and Dalton Burleson chipped in a point for the winning cause.
Mabank started strong, bolting out to a 12-7 first-period lead.
Kaufman, however, had a stubborn defense in the second period and allowed Mabank just five points. The Lions, meanwhile, scored 15 points for themselves, giving Kaufman a 22-17 halftime lead.
Mabank began to shine in the third period, outscoring Kaufman 16-12.
Kaufman’s offense sprang into action, scoring 18 points in the final period, but it was a Panther offensive showcase in the fourth as they scored 25 points to seal the victory.
On Jan. 4, Mabank faced the Quinlan-Ford Panthers, and slipped past them 56-53.
Mabank played a powerful first period, scoring 20 points and allowing Ford just eight.
Ford, however, outscored Mabank in the second period, 13-11, leaving the score 31-21 in favor of Mabank at the half.
Mabank pulled away in the third period, scoring 13 points and allowing Ford just six.
The fourth period, however, was an offensive-dominated period, with Ford scoring a whopping 26 points, while Mabank added 12 points to maintain the lead and claim the win.
The win gives the Panthers a 15-6 season record.
Mabank hosted the Athens Hornets Friday, and will host the Van Vandals Tuesday.
