Mathis was born Dec. 20, 1944, in Maud, and died Dec. 28, 2012, in Terrell.
He lived the majority of his life in Kemp.
He worked much of his life as a peace officer serving in Kemp and Kaufman County before retiring from Van Zandt County after more than 20 years in law enforcement.
During his career, he touched the lives of many. Even those he had to enforce the law against held him in the highest respect.
He was a mentor and will continue to be the role model many aspire to be.
Survivors include his wife, Bert Mathis; daughters Tammy Benton, Samantha Ledbetter, Rebecca and Patricia Mathis; many grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his dog, Suzie.
Harvey’s RV Park Center is located at 101 N. Hwy 274, in Kemp, on the corner of Hwy 175 and Hwy 274 behind Harvey’s Exxon.
