KEMP–The hosting Kemp Yellowjackets gained two wins Tuesday, Dec. 21, over the Eustace Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs.
The Eustace boys took an early, 9-7, lead after the first period, but the Yellowjackets rebounded and took a 20-14 halftime lead.
Eustace battled to come back in the second half, and by the end of regulation, the scored was tied, 40-40.
In overtime, Kemp made the most of their opportunities and outscored Eustace, 8-4, to seal the 48-44 victory.
Much like the boys’ game, the Eustace ladies started strong, taking a 9-4 lead halfway through the first period. With 1:41 left in the first period, the Lady ’Dogs had a 15-6 advantage. By the time the period ended, Kemp had begun scratching their way back, making the score 15-10.
With 5:35 left in the half, Eustace had just a one-point, 18-17, lead, but extended it to 20-17 just seconds later.
Kemp took its first lead of the game, 22-20, with 3:21 remaining the half.
The Lady ’Jackets moved on to take a 27-22 lead when the buzzer sounded.
The game continued along the same track for the second half, with Kemp finishing on top, 56-47.
The Kemp ladies return to action Dec. 27-29 as they compete in the Kaufman Holiday basketball tournament, while the boys will compete in the Sunnyvale basketball tournament.
The Eustace Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will return to action when they host Red Oak Life Jan. 4.
