MABANK–The Eustace Lady Bulldog volleyball team advanced to the Area round of the playoffs Tuesday after defeating the Edgewood Lady Bulldogs in four games to claim the Bi-District title.
The Lady ’Dogs faced the District 16-2A champion Redwater Lady Dragons at Longview High School Thursday.
Eustace head coach Chuck Powers’ Lady Bulldogs have a tradition of winning, having made it to the playoffs every year for more than a decade.
Last year, the made it to the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs, and have played that deep in four of the past five years.
In the Bi-District round, the Edgewood Lady Bulldogs took the first set of the match, 25-22.
After the Eustace ladies settled down, they won the last three; 25-15, 28-26 and 25-15.
Much of the match was a back-and-forth affair, with Eustace making the most of their opportunities, but occasionally giving Edgewood an opportunity as well.
However, the tenacious and scrappy Eustace girls’ had the heart and the desire.
Bethany Strickland had five ace serves against Edgewood, Peyton Dibari had three aces and Kacie Richards added two.
Richards also had 11 kills in the match, while Strickland and Casey Bramblitt had six kills each.
Team assist leader Mallory Keeling had 24 assists, helping Eustace secure the win.
