Rev. Henry AshfordServices for Henderson County Precinct 1 Judge Rev. Henry Ashford, 65, of Henderson County, were held Oct. 27, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Athens, with the Rev. Frank B. Mosley officiating.
Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler, under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Company.
Ashford was born July 7, 1947, in Calvert, to Katherine (Lusk) and Montgomery Ashford, and died Oct. 20, 2012.
He graduated from Jackson High School in Tyler and served as Henderson County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1. He was the pastor of New Beginning Ministries, in Athens.
He served as president of Athens Housing Authority, past president of Henderson County Black History Committee, member of Henderson County Ministerial Alliance, Henderson County NAACP and various other committees.
He also served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Andrew R. Lusk.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Cassie Williams Ashford of Athens; sons Antwoin Smith and wife Renee of Fort Worth, and Henry Ashford Jr. and wife Katrina, of Burleson; daughters Sonya Ashford of Waco and Kathryn Simmons and husband Stevie of Burleson; brothers Lincoln Ashford of Chicago, Ill., Aaron Ashford of Abilene, Lawrence Young of Copperas Cove, Ernest Young of Mount Holly, N.J.; sisters Harold Ann Prince of Fort Worth, and Mona Ekpunobi of Abilene; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
