Special to The Monitor
MABANK–Mabank Intermediate School (MIS) recently broke ground on the new Outdoor Interactive Classroom.
Funds for the classroom is the result of MIS science teachers submitting a written grant to the Rotary Club of Cedar Creek Lake.
Rotary members agreed to donate a portion of the funds needed for project and the school district will pick up the remaining costs.
The new outdoor classroom will include a greenhouse, seating for students, a teacher table, a composter and eventually, a water reclamation center.
The construction of raised vegetable beds in the future is also being discussed between MIS teachers and the Kaufman County Extension Agency.
