KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjacket and Lady Yellowjacket cross country teams swept the annual Kemp Invitational XC meet Oct. 6. All the squads placed first in the annual event.
Notable performances included Jesus Perez, who finished first in the boy’s varsity race. Following Perez were James Kimbrell (fourth), Forrest Summerhill (sixth), Toribio Vega (seventh), Sebastian Tobar (ninth) and Jesse Hall (15th).
Even though Mabank Lady Panthers captured the top three individual places, Kemp’s girls beat out Mabank’s team based on the tie breaker scores of the sixth, non-team scoring, 10th place finish of Yellowjacket Austin LaGuardia.
Kemp’s top finisher, in fourth place, was Kelsey Gage followed by Jessica Van Pamel (fifth), Mikaila Guiterrez (sixth), Kayla Hale (seventh), Harley Foster (ninth) and Scout Rogers (13th).
Mabank’s top three were Kourtney Holyfield (first), Heather Bayless (second) and Sydnee Pottorf (third).
Rounding out the Mabank scoring were Kelsie Clark (11th) and Kristina Flatt (14th).
Approximately 75 runners represented five participating schools.
