MABANK–A key injury hurt the Mabank lady Panthers as they fell to the visiting Canton girls in three sets Tuesday.
Mabank lost set one 25-23, set two 25-22 and set three 25-15.
“We were playing very well and were in total control of game 2 until our starting middle blocker went down with an ankle injury and then our chemistry was completely gone,” Mabank head coach Stacy Shelton said.
“Rachel French did a great job coming in for Bailey who got hurt but we just lost our momentum. We just couldn’t recover from that.”
Against Canton, Bailey Swain had five kills and four digs. Shelby Swain added seven kills, three digs and two aces; while Morgen Gaona had 15 kills, seven digs and two aces.
Jordan Koskelin added 10 digs, and Madison Holyfield had five kills and two digs.
Kourtney Holyfield racked up 30 assists and three digs, and Mikayla Adams chipped in six kills, two digs and an ace.
The loss moves the Lady Panthers to an 18-13 season record, and a 1-3 district mark.
The Lady Panthers have a solid home stretch of matches coming up, hosting the Van Lady Vandals Tuesday, Brownsboro Oct. 12 and Mineola Oct. 16.
